Tommy Ramone Dies at 62
Tommy Ramone from the famous Punk Band, The Ramones, dies at 62. Birth name Erelyi Tamas, born in Budapest, Hungary died in his New York residence. He was admitted in the hospital for treatment of bile duct cancer.
Tommy moved to USA with his family in the 1950’s, eventually settling in Queens, New York. His first experience with a band was shared with Johnny Ramone, who was also a part of Tangerine Puppets in the 60’s. After meeting with future members of what would be known as The Ramones; Joey Ramone and Dee Dee Ramone would later form a band inspired by Paul McCartney’s former stage name Paul Ramon, in 1974.
Initially becoming the band’s manager, he was also the drummer for the first 3 albums. Eventually departing the band to become a producer, Tommy was replaced by Marky Ramone.
Being highly successful during the rock-era, Tommy Ramone was quoted saying “One the reasons that the Ramones were so unique and original was that they were four original, unique people,” he is credited as saying.”
